Tinubu Has Pardoned People Who Were Convicted Of Various Degrees Of Crime. Sowore On Kanu Release

In a recent video post on YouTube, Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has expressed concern over the continued detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Sowore stated that his position was not to seek pardon for Kanu but to question the Nigerian government’s inconsistency in granting pardons to others convicted of serious crimes.

In his words, “I am not here to plead pardon for Nnamdi Kanu. Tinubu has pardoned people who were convicted of various degrees of crime,” Sowore said, criticizing what he described as selective justice and political bias in the system.

Speaking during a recent interview, Sowore condemned what he called the “unfair treatment” of Kanu compared to others who have benefitted from government clemency.

He argued that if the administration could release or pardon individuals found guilty of corruption and other offenses, it should also consider the political nature of Kanu’s case and respect court rulings regarding his freedom.

Sowore emphasized that his call was rooted in the principles of justice and equality, not sympathy or political alignment.

He noted that Nigeria’s justice system has repeatedly demonstrated bias, especially in cases involving dissenting voices or political agitators.

He further urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to demonstrate true leadership by addressing cases of political detention and promoting reconciliation rather than revenge. See, More, Here>>>>
