Tinubu Could Lose 2027 Election If Atiku Teams Up With Obi or Amaechi — Dele Momodu

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and veteran journalist, Dele Momodu, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu could face defeat in the 2027 presidential election if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar runs on a joint ticket with a strong southern political figure such as Peter Obi or Rotimi Amaechi.

Momodu made the remark while discussing possible political alliances ahead of the next general election cycle, which is expected to intensify political realignments among major parties and influential politicians.

According to him, a strategic partnership between Atiku and a prominent southern leader could create a formidable political coalition capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential race.

“If Atiku Abubakar runs with someone like Peter Obi or Rotimi Amaechi, it would be very difficult for President Tinubu to win the 2027 election,” Momodu said while speaking on the possible political scenarios that could shape the next presidential contest.

The comments come amid growing speculation about potential coalitions among opposition politicians, as many political actors begin to position themselves ahead of the next election cycle.

Atiku Abubakar, who served as Vice President of Nigeria between 1999 and 2007, has contested the presidency multiple times and remains one of the most prominent figures within Nigeria’s opposition political landscape.

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, gained significant popularity among young voters and urban populations during the last election cycle.

Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transportation, is also a notable political figure who previously contested in the APC presidential primaries in 2022.

Political analysts say that alliances between northern and southern political leaders have historically played a major role in Nigeria’s presidential elections, as parties often attempt to build regional balance and broader voter appeal across the country.

Momodu argued that a coalition combining Atiku’s northern political base with the popularity or influence of a strong southern figure could create a powerful electoral force capable of reshaping the political landscape.

However, analysts note that forming such alliances can be complex, as it often requires negotiations between political parties, agreement on power-sharing arrangements, and alignment of political interests.

As the 2027 election approaches, many observers expect increased political discussions, party restructuring, and possible mergers or alliances among opposition groups seeking to challenge the ruling party.

Meanwhile, supporters of the APC have continued to express confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, arguing that his administration’s policies and development agenda could strengthen his political standing ahead of future elections….See More
