They Tied Him Up And Tortured Ganiyu With Machetes Untill His Body Couldn’t Take It Anymore- Awoyemi

Oluwabunmi Awoyemi, a former student union leader of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, where Ganiyu, a motorcyclist, was allegedly tortured by police officers, has recounted the incident that the officers tied Ganiyu and tortured him with machetes until his body could no longer take it anymore.

Awoyemi narrated the incident, saying that some local residents near Mini Campus had asked Ganiyu (the victim) to buy petrol for them. While Ganiyu was away, the guys were attacked and robbed – a common occurrence in Ago-Iwoye, where robbery has been rampant with little action taken to address it. Upon Ganiyu’s return, suspicion unjustly fell on him, making him appear guilty despite his innocence.

He added that the incident was reported to the Ago-Iwoye Police Station. However, instead of investigating and apprehending the actual robbers, the officers targeted Ganiyu. They bound him, subjected him to merciless beatings with batons, and brutally slashed and tortured him with machetes until his body could no longer endure the pain. Ganiyu was rushed to Love and Care Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body is currently at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital Mortuary.

According to a report by the Punch News on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Awoyemi said, “They tied him up. They beat him mercilessly with batons. They slashed and tortured him with machetes until his young body couldn’t take it anymore. He was rushed to the Love and Care Hospital, where he was declared dead.” See, More, Here>>>>
