There Was No Way Biafra Could’ve Won The War,Nigeria Had Support Of Arabs,Britain,USA,Russia—Onumonu

Dr. Ugo Onumonu, the Head of Department of History and International Studies at Adeleke University in Osun State, has stated there was almost no way Biafra could have won the civil war.

In an interview on State Affairs Show with Edmund Obilo, Onumonu stated that Nigeria had the backing of major powers such as Great Britain, Russia, the United States, the Soviet Union, as well as Egyptians and other Arab countries during the war.

Dr Onumonu explained that the war happened at a time when Israel as a nation was in conflict with Arab countries. Onumonu said Israel was one of the few countries that supported Biafra and this was one of the reasons why the Arabs sent mercenaries to support efforts against Biafra during the war.

In Onumonu’s words: “We all also know that the equation, the international politics then suggested that there is no way Biafrans would have won that war because they (Nigeria) had the support of Great Britain, they had the support of Russia, even the US, the Soviet Union, the Egyptians and Arabs.
