There Was Big Intelligence Report From US, They Brought The Report For Us To Analyze At NIPSS-Aremu

Former Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Issa Aremu has opened up about a classified intelligence assessment from the United States that once projected Nigeria’s possible collapse within 15 years.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Aremu recounted how the report sparked serious concern among participants at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in 2005.

He explained that while undergoing training at NIPSS, a document described as a major intelligence brief from the US was presented to the class. According to the report, Nigeria was expected to fall apart by around 2020, a forecast that rattled everyone at the time and led to national discourse.

“When I was in NIPSS 2005, there was this big report, intelligence report from United States that Nigeria will collapse in 15 years time. From 2005, that comes to almost about 2020 or thereabout,” Aremu said, recalling the tense atmosphere.

He added that the document was not merely circulated but handed to them for thorough review and discussion. The content, he said, created worry among policymakers and experts at the institute.

“That was the prediction and they actually brought the report for us to analyze in NIPPS and there was a state of frenzy. That was under President Obasanjo,” he stated.

Aremu noted that despite the unsettling projection, Nigeria defied the dire prediction and has continued to navigate its challenges without disintegrating. He argued that the country’s survival beyond the forecast year demonstrates its resilience and the commitment of its people.
