The Suspect Allegedly Used A Metallic Ring To Repeatedly Strike A Man On The Head And Face – Oluseyi

According to a report by the Punch on Saturday, September 20, 2025, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested Samsideen Oladiti, a prominent official of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, following allegations of murder and brutal assault. The 55-year-old leader, popularly known as ‘Shamelon,’ faces charges connected to two violent incidents on Lagos Island, including one fatal attack that resulted in a victim’s death.

According to police reports, the suspect’s violent behavior spanned multiple incidents. Deputy police spokesperson Babaseyi Oluseyi detailed the severity of one attack, stating, “During the altercation, the suspect allegedly used a metallic ring to repeatedly strike a man on the head and face, inflicting severe injuries.” This brutal assault ultimately proved fatal, with the victim succumbing to his injuries despite medical intervention.

The arrest followed violent protests at Sandgrouse Market, where sympathizers of the deceased set fire to two motorcycles belonging to the suspect. Lagos State Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh personally intervened to restore calm, assuring residents that the suspect remains in custody and will face prosecution after investigations conclude.

The state NURTW chairman, Mustapha Adekunle, has distanced the union from Oladiti’s actions, emphasizing that the organization does not condone violence. Adekunle pledged full cooperation with authorities and warned that union membership provides no protection from legal consequences for criminal behavior.

Police have transferred the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation while appealing to the public to remain calm and allow the judicial process to unfold. The case highlights ongoing concerns about violence involving transport union members and the need for accountability within the sector. See, More, Here>>>>
