Omolola Okueso, a 33-year-old Lagos resident and eldest of a set of naturally delivered identical triplets, has recounted the extraordinary public attention her birth attracted in 1993. Speaking in an interview with Punch Newspaper on February 22, 2026, Okueso shared how the arrival of the triplets at a private hospital in Ilasamaja turned into a community spectacle.
In Okueso’s word, “The medical director had to close the gate because people were trooping to come and see us,” Okueso recalled, describing the overwhelming curiosity that swept through the neighborhood. She emphasized that residents from all over Ilasamaja abandoned their daily routines just to witness the rare birth, which many perceived as a miraculous or exceptional occurrence.
Okueso, the eldest of the three sisters, said the hospital quickly became the center of attention, with crowds gathering at the gates and spilling onto nearby streets. Staff members struggled to maintain order, balancing the need to care for the exhausted mother with ensuring that curious onlookers did not compromise patient safety. The sheer scale of the public interest was unprecedented for the facility, and management was forced to take extraordinary measures to preserve calm and security.
“The atmosphere was both thrilling and overwhelming,” she said. “People from all walks of life wanted to see us, some calling it a miracle, others marveling at the rarity of identical triplets being naturally delivered. It was truly a moment that captured everyone’s attention.”
Okueso explained that the hospital’s decision to close the gate was necessary not only for the safety of the babies and their mother but also to allow medical staff to operate without interruption. The staff, who were already managing a demanding delivery, had to contend with the constant influx of visitors trying to gain a glimpse of the newborns.
Reflecting on the experience decades later, Okueso described it as both humbling and surreal. She emphasized that while the attention was overwhelming at the time, it also highlighted the community’s fascination with rare births and the strong sense of communal curiosity that can emerge in such extraordinary circumstances…..See More
