Sommie: That Arise Somebody That Died, You Are Saying This Because Your Colleague Is Involved – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized journalists and media organizations for what he described as selective outrage over the death of Arise News anchor, Sommie Maduagwu.

He stated that while the death was unfortunate, he believes the reactions from Arise TV and Channels Television were driven more by sentiment than genuine concern for public safety.

Speaking during a live coverage by Channels TV, Wike stressed that the government’s responsibility is to protect lives and property regardless of who is involved. He accused some journalists of hypocrisy, noting that they only raise alarm when one of their own is affected.

In his words, “That Arise somebody died, which nobody’s happy about — but the death, I don’t believe because it is Arise or because it is Channels. It’s our responsibility, it doesn’t matter who, to protect life and property. All this you are saying now because a colleague of yours is involved, and that means it’s a spike. But if another person dies, you won’t bother about it.Read Original
