Somebody Close To The APC Told Me The Only Formula They Don’t Have Solution To Is Obi -Abdulkarim

The Director General of Big Tent Nigeria, Ibrahim Abdulkarim, has claimed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) considers former Anambra State governor Peter Obi as its most serious and unresolved political threat ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking on Arise Prime Time on Thursday, January 8th, 2026, Abdulkarim said he was told by a source close to the APC that the party has no viable strategy to defeat Obi should he secure the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“Somebody very close to the system in the APC told me the only formula they don’t have a solution to is Mr Peter Obi,” Abdulkarim said during the live interview.

According to him, Obi’s appeal cuts across age, class, and regional divides, making him a uniquely difficult candidate for the ruling party to counter. He argued that unlike other opposition figures, Obi excites young voters and represents a clear break from what he described as recycled political leadership.

Abdulkarim further suggested that Obi’s candidacy would expose unresolved contradictions within the APC, particularly around religion and regional balancing. He said the ruling party would struggle to defend its Muslim–Muslim presidential ticket from 2023 if confronted with Obi as a unifying alternative in 2027.

The Big Tent Nigeria DG dismissed recent political developments he described as distractions, including declarations by other figures outside the ADC framework, insisting they posed no real threat to Obi’s momentum. He maintained that Obi’s political movement was not personality-driven but powered by widespread youth mobilisation and a demand for accountable governance.

The comments come amid growing speculation over the ADC’s presidential primary, with multiple heavyweight contenders jostling for position. While former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared he will not step down for any aspirant, Abdulkarim’s remarks underline the intensifying perception that Peter Obi remains the opposition figure most feared by the ruling party as the 2027 race takes shape.
