Rivers: Mr Wike Said That They Didn’t Tell Him, I Don’t Know Whether To Believe That Or Not-Akande

Public Affairs Analyst, Laolu Akande has expressed doubt over the claim by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, that he had no prior knowledge of the recent mass defection of lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Akande made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television while analyzing the latest political turbulence rocking the state.

The political scene in Rivers State was thrown into fresh controversy after several lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announced their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that has deepened the internal crisis stemming from the well-publicized rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Wike.

Reacting to Wike’s public statement that the lawmakers’ action took him by surprise, Akande questioned the credibility of such a claim, given Wike’s longstanding influence in Rivers politics.

“Mr Wike said that they didn’t tell him, quite frankly I don’t know whether to believe that or not. It’s very unclear to me,” Akande said, noting that the circumstances surrounding the defections remain ambiguous.

He explained that Wike, known for his strong grip on political structures in Rivers State, is unlikely to be completely unaware of such a coordinated political move. Akande argued that there are too many unanswered questions, especially regarding the timing of the defections and their clear alignment with the broader political feud in the state.
