Former aide to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has dismissed claims by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai regarding his alleged involvement in hacking or intercepting communications, branding him a liar incapable of such technical feats.
Speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily program today, Akande echoed sentiments previously expressed by former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.
He asserted that El-Rufai lacks the capacity to hack into any system and described him as dishonest, citing former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s past characterization of El-Rufai as a malicious pathological liar.
The remarks come amid escalating controversy surrounding El-Rufai, who faces criminal charges filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The charges, under the Cybercrimes Act and related laws, stem from El-Rufai’s statements on Arise TV where he implied access to intercepted communications involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
Prosecutors allege unlawful interception of the NSA’s phone conversations, raising serious national security concerns.
Akande’s statement aligned with Amaechi’s view that El-Rufai does not possess the expertise or resources for sophisticated cyber operations, suggesting instead that any monitoring would originate from official state apparatus.
His words: “I think what Rotimi Amaechi said makes a lot of sense. I mean, he says that, El-Rufai does not have the capacity to hack into any system. The man is just a liar. El-Rufai is a liar.
