Social media users on Tuesday took to their X (formerly Twitter) accounts to express mixed reactions after former Kaduna State governor and senior African Democratic Congress (ADC) figure, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, shared a controversial post suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reshaped Nigeria’s political structure to reflect personal and regional interests.
El-Rufai made the post on his verified X account on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, where he shared a graphic report alleging that the administration of President Tinubu had effectively altered the “map of Nigeria” into what was described in the report as the “map of Tinuburia.” The post quickly drew attention, triggering widespread debate and commentary across the platform.
The report circulated by the former governor claimed that the alleged transformation was reflected in the regional spread of ambassadorial appointments under the current administration.
According to the graphic, President Tinubu reportedly selected 11 ambassadors from the South-West, five from the North-West, six from the South-East, five from the North-East, and five from the North-Central.
The data was presented as evidence of an imbalance that appeared to favour the president’s home region.
In addition to sharing the report and accompanying map, El-Rufai added a brief but pointed message on his page. He wrote, “The best revenge is not to be like your enemy.” Although the statement did not directly mention the president, many social media users interpreted it as a sharp political commentary on governance style and perceived inequities in federal appointments.
Following the post, reactions poured in from Nigerians across different political and regional divides. Some users commended El-Rufai for highlighting what they viewed as a legitimate concern about fairness and national inclusion in government decisions.
Others, however, criticized him for what they described as an attempt to inflame public sentiment or advance political narratives through social media.
Several commentators also called for caution, questioning the context and completeness of the data used in the report.
They urged Nigerians to seek official clarification on ambassadorial appointments before drawing conclusions, while others argued that the issue of regional balance has long remained a sensitive and recurring topic in national discourse.
