Reactions After Odinkalu Said Justice Omotosho, Lifu, Others Haven’t Issued An Order Restraining USA

Nigerian lawyer and human rights advocate, Professor Chidi Odinkalu, has sparked a wave of reactions on social media after issuing a satirical remark regarding the recent designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Odinkalu, who is known for his outspoken views on governance and justice, took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday to comment on the escalating diplomatic tension between Abuja and Washington.

His statement came after President Trump instructed the U.S. Department of War to prepare for possible operations in Nigeria if the Nigerian government fails to stop what he described as the “killing of Christians.”

Reacting to the development, Odinkalu criticized the silence of Nigeria’s judiciary in his usual tone of irony, suggesting that the courts often quick to issue politically charged orders have remained mute in the face of an international issue involving the United States.

“Am I the only one disappointed that we are still waiting on Federal High Court to issue an order restraining the US? No Omotosho? No Lifu? Where is Nyesom Wike when Nigeria needs him,” he wrote on his X page.

The post immediately gained traction online, drawing mixed responses from Nigerians who interpreted his statement in different ways. While some users praised Odinkalu for using humor to expose what they see as the inconsistency of the Nigerian judiciary, others argued that the comment was unnecessary given the sensitive nature of U.S.-Nigeria relations at the moment.

President Trump’s recent declaration and the accompanying threat of military involvement have already stirred significant controversy. Supporters of the U.S. position argue that Washington is right to hold Nigeria accountable for rising cases of religiously motivated violence, while critics accuse Trump of exaggerating the situation and jeopardizing diplomatic ties.
