Peter Obi’s Explosive Speech Shakes Nigeria: This Is Not Governance

The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern over the pervasive corruption undermining Nigeria’s development, describing it as the country’s most destructive obstacle to progress.

Obi, who made the remarks while addressing journalists in Lagos on Sunday, lamented that corruption has eaten so deeply into the fabric of the nation that it now dictates government operations and decision-making. He stressed that unless Nigeria confronts this menace head-on, the dream of national transformation will remain elusive.

According to him, “Corruption is not just a crime; it’s a system that has been normalized in every sector—from public service to project execution. It has become the major reason our economy is weak, our infrastructure is poor, and our people are suffering.”

He further noted that the looting of public funds and mismanagement of resources have crippled vital sectors like education, healthcare, and power, leading to widespread poverty and unemployment. Obi called for a total overhaul of the nation’s value system, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and strong leadership as key to rebuilding public trust.

The former Anambra State governor urged Nigerians to demand integrity from those in power, warning that national progress cannot coexist with unchecked corruption. “No country can develop when corruption thrives. We must choose honesty over convenience, and merit over mediocrity,” he stated.

Obi reaffirmed his commitment to advocating good governance and ethical leadership, adding that the fight against corruption must go beyond rhetoric to real, enforceable reforms.

He concluded that until corruption is decisively tackled, Nigeria’s immense potential will continue to be squandered at the expense of its citizens.
