According to a report by Daily Post, on Thursday March 12, 2026, former senator Dino Melaye has stated that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is a respected Nigerian but does not have what it takes to become the President of Nigeria.
Obi, who previously served as governor of Anambra State, was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (Nigeria) in the 2023 general election, since then, he has remained active in Nigerian politics and has repeatedly said he plans to contest again in the 2027 presidential election.
Melaye said Obi is a fantastic individual but believes that leading Nigeria requires qualities that Obi may not currently possess, according to Melaye, the major challenge for anyone seeking to become Nigeria’s president is the ability to unite the country.
He explained that Nigeria is a complex nation with many ethnic groups, religions, and political interests, because of this, he said the next leader must be someone who can bring all parts of the country together.
Melaye noted that while he has great respect for Obi’s personality and achievements, he does not think the former governor has the national influence required to lead the country at this time and added that leadership of Nigeria demands strong political networks and broad national acceptance.
“But let me even tell you, Peter Obi is a fantastic Nigerian. I have tremendous respect for him, and I’ve said it before, he is a fantastic person, but cannot be President this is not his time to be President,” Melaye said….See More
