Kenneth Okonkwo, the former spokesperson for the Labour Party presidential campaign council, has revealed controversial details regarding the internal negotiations during the primary election season. The legal practitioner alleged that Peter Obi attempted to bypass a competitive voting process by reaching out to other candidates from his region. He claimed that this move was intended to secure an easy path to the party presidential ticket.

The politician further argued that such requests undermine the spirit of internal democracy within any serious political organization. He noted that instead of convincing delegates through a superior manifesto, the former governor sought to eliminate competition through backroom deals. Okonkwo insisted that these actions contradict the image of a reformer that many people have associated with the candidate since the last general election cycle.
Furthermore, he pointed out that several aspirants felt pressured by these requests but ultimately chose to stand their ground during the process. Okonkwo maintained that his decision to speak out now is based on a desire for total transparency in how leaders are selected. He believes that the Nigerian electorate deserves to know the true character of those seeking to lead the country in 2027.
In his concluding remarks, Okonkwo urged political parties to discourage the culture of entitlement among top candidates. He emphasized that every aspirant must be willing to subject themselves to the will of the party members without seeking shortcuts. He maintained that until the culture of seeking unearned endorsements ends, the country will continue to struggle with selecting leaders who are truly accountable to the people…See More
