PDP: The Decision To Undermine The Duties Of My Office Is Provocative & Unacceptable To Me- Anyanwu

Turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) intensified Thursday, when National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu formally accused the party’s National Chairman, Ambassador Illya Damagum, of acting in violation of the party constitution and attempting to marginalize the office of the Secretary.

In a sharply worded letter dated October 1, 2025, made public via Arise News on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Anyanwu claimed that recent decisions taken by the PDP leadership were unconstitutional and that his responsibilities as National Secretary had been deliberately subverted.

The letter outlined the scope of his office as defined in the PDP constitution namely, issuing notices for meetings of central organs, managing official correspondence, and ensuring that party decisions are executed and alleged that these powers have been ignored.

Anyanwu specifically challenged a directive issued by the National Publicity Secretary dissolving the State Working Committees (SWCs) in Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

According to him, that decision is invalid, because the meeting in which it was purportedly adopted was not convened under his authority as prescribed by the party’s rules.

“The duties of my office are clearly stated in the constitution, yet they are being disregarded,” Anyanwu wrote. “Any action taken by an illegally constituted National Working Committee is null and void.” He warned that such measures are provocative and undermine unity, arguing that they risk deepening existing fissures within the PDP if not reversed.

In his appeal, Anyanwu urged Damagum to retrace his steps and restore constitutional order within the party.

He called for adherence to the charter as a safeguard for the party’s cohesion, particularly at a time of heightened internal tension.

Describing the undermining of his office as “grossly unacceptable,” Anyanwu asserted that the unity of the PDP depends on strict observance of internal rules. He cautioned that failure to do so would lead to further fragmentation and weaken the party’s ability to present a united front in future contests. See, More, Here>>>>
