The party member accused Obi of prioritizing personal ambition over regional interests, suggesting that a potential four-year presidency would be insufficient to address the challenges facing the Southeast and Southern Nigeria at large. Chief Ogbonnaya questioned what meaningful impact could be achieved within such a limited timeframe.
He advised Obi, whom he described as relatively young in political terms, to exercise patience and wait for a more opportune moment to pursue the nation’s highest office. The APC chieftain expressed confidence that Obi’s time for leadership would eventually arrive.
Chief Ogbonnaya further argued that the timing for Obi’s presidential bid remains unfavorable, stating that political destiny cannot be rushed. He posed a rhetorical question about the comparative effectiveness of a four-year presidency versus an eight-year term, suggesting that a shorter tenure would limit Obi’s capacity to deliver substantial benefits to the South.
The comments reflect ongoing political tensions surrounding the 2027 presidential race and regional power dynamics within Nigerian politics.
In his words, “Peter Obi is angling to be president for four years. That is self-centeredness. He is being too personal; he is not thinking of his people.
