Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, the factional National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the Labour Party, has said that Peter Obi is not the founder or foundation of the Labour Party, stressing that the party had won elections before Obi joined.
His statement was contained in a video interview shared by SYMFONI TV on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
In an interview, Arabambi said the Labour Party had already won a governorship election while Peter Obi was still working in the banking sector. He said this shows that the party was already making political progress before Obi became a member.
Arabambi also said the Labour Party did not collect any money from Peter Obi or Abia State Governor Alex Otti before giving them the party’s platform.
He further said the Labour Party had also won Senate seats in the past. Arabambi mentioned former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, saying he was elected to the Senate on the Labour Party platform before later moving to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
Arabambi said Nigerians should check the records to confirm that the Labour Party existed and had electoral victories long before Peter Obi joined the party.
