No Igbo Will Have Peace Until Kanu Regains Freedom, Obi Cubana Tells Bola Tinubu

Business mogul and popular socialite Obi Cubana has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene decisively in securing the release of the detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

According to him, lasting peace and emotional stability among the Igbo people cannot be restored until Kanu regains his freedom.

In a statement published on his Facebook page, Cubana expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

According to Vanguard, he cited several troubling events that have shaken the nation in recent times: the U.S. designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, attacks on worshippers in Kwara State, the killing of a Brigadier General, the sentencing of Nnamdi Kanu, and the abduction of over 50 Catholic school students in Niger State.

Cubana noted that these incidents have left Nigerians distressed and emotionally drained.

He revealed that he and other well-meaning citizens have engaged in discussions with top political figures, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President’s son.

These engagements focused on insecurity, taxation, ease of doing business, customs, FIRS, NAFDAC, and possible political solutions that could pave the way for Kanu’s release.

He emphasized that the agitation surrounding Kanu’s continued detention remains a major source of tension across the Southeast.

According to him, “no Igbo man or woman will truly have peace” until the issue is resolved, adding that the region’s social harmony has been severely affected.

Cubana appealed directly to President Tinubu to listen to the cries of the people and embrace dialogue as the path to national healing.
