According to a report by Vanguard Newspapers on Monday, October 6, 2025, The Federal Government has highlighted the strategic importance of the Dangote Refinery, urging that the $20 billion facility be fully supported to ensure its success.
Officials emphasized that the refinery, with a production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is a national asset crucial to Nigeria’s economic development.
Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Bagudu, made the remarks at the opening of the Nigerian Economic Summit 2025 in Abuja.
They stressed that the refinery’s operations are vital for reducing dependence on imported petroleum products and for boosting local industrial activity.
The government’s comments followed an industrial action by workers under the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) last week.
The strike disrupted activities in some oil facilities, prompting concerns about the impact on production and the nation’s economic stability.
He said, “Nigeria is greater than PENGASSAN. Nigeria is greater than each and every one of us. I’m not coming to you as a partisan.”
Vice President Shettima noted that the interests of the country must come before any individual or group, highlighting that national priorities take precedence over sector-specific disputes.
The government urged all stakeholders to cooperate in ensuring the smooth operation of the Dangote Refinery, which has the potential to transform Nigeria’s energy and industrial landscape.
Officials also reiterated the commitment to creating an enabling environment for investments and industrial growth.
They emphasized that strategic projects like the Dangote Refinery are central to achieving economic self-sufficiency and providing employment opportunities, as well as strengthening Nigeria’s position in the global petroleum industry.Continue, Full, Reading>>>>
