Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had issued a dual warning that underscores the volatile chessboard of Middle Eastern politics, expressing deep-seated concerns over Egypt’s rapidly expanding military capabilities, stating it needs to be monitored.
According to a report made by the TRT on Friday, 6 February, 2026, the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu while speaking before the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee, expressed deep-seated concerns over Egypt’s rapidly expanding military capabilities, stating it needs to be monitored.
He also Simultaneously, admitted profound uncertainty about U.S. President Donald Trump’s final strategic decision regarding the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the leadership of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, revealing the limits of even the closest allied coordination.
Despite a landmark $35 billion natural gas deal signed with the Egyptian Government in December, heralded as the largest in Israel’s history, Israeli Premier, Benjamin Netanyahu said “We have relations with Egypt, but we must prevent an excessive buildup of military power,” highlighting the fragile nature of the decades-long peace treaty, where economic cooperation coexists with intense military vigilance, with analysts suggesting Netanyahu’s Government is wary of any shift in the regional balance of power, particularly as Egypt modernizes its forces with advanced weaponry.
He also confirmed that security coordination with the administration of the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump was at the highest possible level.
Prime Minister Netanyahu also told Israeli lawmakers he sees conditions emerging for a critical phase that could lead to the collapse of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the leadership of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, at the same time warning that any attack on Israel would be met with a response much larger, and harsher than strikes conducted previously.
