Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pledged intelligence support to help combat what he described as systematic violence against Christians in Nigeria, endorsing President Trump’s focus on the humanitarian crisis and positioning it as part of Israel’s broader mission.
“To the extent we can help with intel on fanatic Muslims massacring Christians, that’s part of our mission,” Netanyahu told Dr. Phil, indicating Israel’s willingness to contribute intelligence capabilities to address religious persecution beyond the Middle East.
The Prime Minister framed Israel’s potential involvement in Nigeria as consistent with its role defending religious minorities throughout the Middle East, where Christian communities have faced increasing pressure from extremist Islamic groups. Netanyahu noted that Israel remains the only country in the region where Christian populations are growing rather than declining.
Netanyahu supported President Trump’s characterization of the Nigerian situation, agreeing that “fanatic Muslims are just massacring Christians” and praising the President’s willingness to address the crisis directly. The Prime Minister suggested that Israel’s extensive intelligence capabilities and experience combating Islamic terrorism could prove valuable in helping Nigerian forces protect Christian communities.
The offer reflects Israel’s broader strategy of positioning itself as a defender of religious minorities against Islamic extremism. Netanyahu emphasized that Christian populations throughout the Middle East have been “oppressed” and “driven out” by extremist groups, with the notable exception of Israel itself, where Christians serve in the military and participate fully in society.
Netanyahu drew connections between attacks on Christians in Nigeria and the broader pattern of violence perpetrated by what he termed “fanatic” Islamic groups worldwide. He estimated that approximately 200,000-300,000 Christians face persecution globally, describing it as a crisis that demands international attention and action.
