Moment Tinubu Bursts Into Laughter Over Reference to ‘Emi Lo Kan’ at Imo Governor’s Book Launch

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu burst into laughter on Tuesday after a speaker referenced his famous 2022 declaration, “Emi Lo Kan”, during the public presentation of a book authored by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma.

The event, which aired live on Channels Television on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, featured a goodwill message from businessman and book presenter, Isyaku Rabiu, who praised President Tinubu’s political journey and selfless contributions to Nigeria’s democracy.

Rabiu recounted Tinubu’s pivotal role in building political alliances that birthed the All Progressives Congress (APC). “Mr. President, you have paid your own dues, you have done well, you have a good record, you are selfless, you are hardworking, you are committed and you are patriotic. Mr. President, we remember when you were able to forge the unity of political parties from ACN, to CPC, to ANPP, to a portion of APGA and to the new people. Therefore, that was how APC was formed and you are instrumental to doing that,” Rabiu said.

He also congratulated the President for his sacrifices in supporting opposition candidates in previous elections. “We congratulate you for bringing APC to life. Mr. President, you also showed selflessness and sacrifice when you supported Atiku Abubakar under AC, you also supported Nuhu Ribadu under ACN and ultimately, you supported our late president, Muhammadu Buhari, under APC,” he added.

The remark that drew laughter came when Rabiu recalled Tinubu’s now iconic phrase, “Emi Lo Kan” (translated as “It’s my turn”), which he declared in 2022 while asserting his right to contest for Nigeria’s presidency. “When you thought it was time for you to take the mantle of leadership, and when shop got to push, you showed your courage and your boldness and you came out and said, Emi Lo Kan. That is a president with a vision, with boldness, with courage,” Rabiu stated.
