Honourable Leke Abejide, a member of the House of Representatives has dismissed comments allegedly made against him by former senator Dino Melaye, insisting that he would not be drawn into what he described as unnecessary political distractions.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Abejide made it clear that he had no intention of responding to Melaye, whom he said was not worthy of his attention. The lawmaker maintained that the remarks attributed to the former senator did not reflect his character or record in public office.
“I’m not going to reply anything to him. Dino does not worth replying to because everything he said, no one describes me. I don’t have time for him,” Abejide said during the interview.
According to Abejide, his focus remains on delivering effective representation to his constituents and contributing meaningfully to legislative duties, rather than engaging in verbal exchanges. He stressed that politics should be about service, ideas and solutions to national challenges, not personal attacks or media-driven confrontations.
The lawmaker noted that public office holders are often subjected to criticism, but he believes maturity and restraint are essential qualities in leadership. He argued that responding to every allegation or provocation only distracts from governance and slows down progress.
Abejide also hinted that his track record speaks for itself, adding that those who genuinely follow his work in the National Assembly would not be swayed by what he described as unfounded statements. He said he prefers to let his actions, rather than words, define him.
