According to a report by The Times of Israel on December 19, 2025, the US is of the firm belief that humanitarian supplies can reach Gaza efficiently without the involvement of UNRWA.
According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a news briefing. He said that UNRWA is an inherently corrupt organisation that would never be able to be changed.
This statement was made in reaction to enquiries regarding recent allegations suggesting that the US government is contemplating sanctioning the organisation as a result of known ties between certain employees and Hamas.
Rubio stressed that the UNRWA has been permanently damaged due to established links between UNRWA staff and Hamas. He insisted that there are other ways to make sure that aid gets to people who need it, other than UNRWA.
In order to show that Washington is committed to helping the civilian population in Gaza while also addressing security concerns, the secretary emphasised the continuing efforts to organise aid through various channels. During the same briefing, Rubio responded to questions on a Trump executive order.
Cabinet members are instructed to research possible sanctions against specific Muslim Brotherhood chapters, with a focus on the branches in Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt, according to the order.
The instruction raises issues about its reach because it noticeably does not mention chapters operating in Turkey or Qatar, as pointed out by a reporter. In response to the remark regarding the excluded countries, Rubio opted not to elaborate.
On the contrary, he said that the US is planning to formally declare sanctions against the Muslim Brotherhood. He did not provide any more information regarding when or what this development would be about; all he said was that it will happen that day or early the next week.
