Lere Olayinka, the senior special adviser on media to the former governor of Rivers State and FCT minister, Nyesom Wike recently reacted after popular Islamic cleric and erstwhile military captain, Sheikh Gumi disclosed that abducting children was lesser evil than annihilating soldiers. According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, he pointed out that Gumi’s comments were delicate.
Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a renowned Islamic cleric and former military captain was recently on the spotlight for the wrong reasons after he disclosed that abducting school children was a lesser crime compared to killing of military personnel.
The Islamic cleric who cited the incident in Kebbi State, pointed out that the abducted school children were freed by the irredentists without harm. This, according to Sheikh Gumi, was better than taking lives.
His comments, which garnered widespread traction across various social media platforms, drew massive backlash as many found his comments not only contentious, but malicious and highly detestable.

According to his statements, the outspoken special adviser pointed out that the comments by the former military captain underscored the delicate balance between dialogue and forceful actions in addressing the persistent insecurity across the country.
The statements from Sheik Gumi, which was widely condemned, indicated that urgent actions must be taken to address insecurity, as supported by Lere Olayinka.
