Kidnappers: There Is No Peace. We Have Not Won Any War And They’re Not Our Friends — Gen Enenche

Retired Major General John Enenche has said Nigeria has not won any war against insurgency, terrorism, banditry, or kidnapping, and that the claim of remaining peace is misleading because the conflict is still growing, arguing that kidnappers are not the friends of any Nigerian.

Speaking on Channels Television, Enenche made this assertion while saying that what is currently happening in the country does not show victory and that Nigerians, policymakers, and elders should stop repeating the phrase that the war has been won.

He argued that separating war from the current wave of attacks is impossible and that insecurity has spread from its early epicenters in the Northeast to nearly every part of the country. He likened the crisis to a virus that has grown inside the body like HIV and warned it will continue to expand if not confronted directly.

He said the audacity and ease with which bandits operate show that the madness is overwhelming the efforts of the securities. He commended the work of law enforcement and military personnel but stressed that it is not good enough.

He described how he feels personally affected when his successor, Major General Rabe Abubakar, was kidnapped and noted that many other cases go unreported.

General Enenche said bandits should not be treated as our brothers, calling for blanket surveillance across communities, a model he said he is testing in a pilot project. He urged political leaders and security chiefs to up their game through research, modification, and sustained engagement with field commanders.

In his words, “I want everybody to sit up right from the political masters. There is no peace. We have not won any war, and they are not our friends. They are not our brothers.”
