JNS CEO Alex Traiman delivered a direct message to the Iranian people during a JNS TV discussion, stating that Israelis are prepared to accept the serious risks of war—including potential retaliation against Israel—if it means ultimately securing freedom for Iranians suffering under the current regime. The statement reflects a growing Israeli sentiment that views the Islamic Republic not only as an existential threat to Israel but also as a brutal oppressor of its own citizens.
Traiman framed the Iranian regime as “not just oppressing to you but it’s an existential threat to us,” linking domestic repression inside Iran to the external danger it poses to Israel. He described widespread assumptions among Israelis that a major U.S. or joint strike on Iran is imminent, and that “Israel could be target number one in any retaliation.” Despite this, he said the public is “bracing for that” and understands the stakes.
Looking forward, Traiman expressed hope for a post-regime Iran that would be “pro-Israeli, pro-western,” potentially led by Reza Pahlavi, the son of the last Shah, who he noted “has been garnering a lot of support within Iran.” While acknowledging uncertainty about full U.S. backing for Pahlavi as transitional leader, Traiman described him as “the best bet for uniting the Iranian people and at least leading some kind of a transitional… phase one… towards uh a more democratic and open society.”
He tied this vision to President Trump’s red line on protecting protesters and contrasted it with the Obama administration’s failure to enforce its own chemical weapons red line in Syria. Traiman suggested that Trump’s deployment of significant military assets to the region is not merely symbolic, and that Israelis see the current moment as a potential turning point—willing to endure the dangers of escalation if it leads to the collapse of a regime they view as both tyrannical at home and aggressively anti-Israel abroad.
