In a recent interview on Signature TV, political analyst Chris Maduka expressed concern over the unfolding courtroom drama surrounding the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, describing it as an episode that continues to expose flaws in Nigeria’s justice system.
Maduka, who was reacting to reports on the latest developments in Kanu’s case, said the defense strategy appears to have taken a surprising turn, with the IPOB leader reportedly set to summon high-profile individuals as witnesses. According to him, the direction the case is heading suggests that it may soon involve even the most powerful figures in the country.
Quoting his words, Maduka said, “Very soon, he will call the President of Nigeria to come and stand as a witness.”
He noted that such a development would be unprecedented in Nigeria’s judicial history and could further complicate an already politically sensitive trial. The analyst cautioned that the federal government must handle the case with wisdom and transparency to avoid turning it into a political spectacle that could embarrass the nation.
Maduka further observed that Kanu’s decision to dismiss his legal team and defend himself has created a tense courtroom atmosphere, with every new appearance drawing national and international attention. He described the case as “another unfolding Nollywood episode,” warning that Nigeria’s reputation could once again be at stake if due process is not strictly followed.
He stated, “Nigeria should stop hunting for ants with a mallet; it will always bring us bad name. The Kanu trial has already painted Nigeria in many colors before the world, and the way it ends will determine whether we regain our image or lose it further.”
Maduka concluded by urging the judiciary to maintain its independence and ensure that justice is both done and seen to be done. He said the rule of law must remain the guiding principle, regardless of political or ethnic sentiments, as the world continues to watch how Nigeria manages one of its most controversial trials in recent history.View, More, News
