Kanu: The Judge Who Jailed Him Saw Things Before Him That Made Him Jail Him For Life -Hon. Ozodinobi

In a video shared during plenary on TV Platinum, Hon. George Ibezimako Ozodinobi made an emotional intervention while calling on President Tinubu to act on the life-imprisonment sentence of Nnamdi Kanu. In the second paragraph, he quoted his central message clearly: “The judge who jailed him saw things before him that made him jail him for life.”

Hon. Ozodinobi explained that although the presiding judge acted strictly on the evidence before him, the President now has a constitutionally recognized window of 60–90 days to exercise the prerogative of mercy. He stressed that Kanu’s legal team has not gone on appeal, but presidential pardon remains lawful and available. He emphasized that he speaks not as a lawyer but as a lawmaker urging national healing and constitutional compassion.

Shifting focus, he addressed the collapsing security reality in northern Nigeria. Recalling his childhood during the Nigerian–Biafran War, he described what is happening today as a full-scale war. He said the recent capture and summary execution of Brigadier General M. Oba by terrorists broke the nation’s spirit and exposed how fragile Nigeria’s sovereignty has become.

According to him, sovereignty becomes an empty slogan when terrorists cross borders freely, occupy towns, ambush soldiers, and molest children. He criticized Nigeria’s past refusal of international support, reminding lawmakers that Nigeria once went to Liberia and Congo through ECOMOG to save other nations. “If help comes from Mali, Chad, or Burkina Faso, we should take it,” he insisted.

Hon. Ozodinobi praised President Tinubu’s history of bold decisions, from subsidy removal to institutional reforms, and urged him to extend that courage by granting Nnamdi Kanu a presidential pardon. He concluded that sovereignty means nothing if citizens live unprotected, and this is the time for decisive action, not pride.
