A prominent social media influencer, Joe Igbo, has issued a heartfelt plea to members of Nigeria’s Southeast community, urging them to return home and conduct proper burial ceremonies for victims of alleged violence in the region over the past decade.
In a widely shared Facebook post, Igbo specifically called on Southeast residents to honor the hundreds of people he claims lost their lives in connection with groups such as IPOB (Indigenous People of Biafra), ESN (Eastern Security Network), UGM, and BDF, all linked to the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
“I want all my people from the Southeast to go home first to do proper burial ceremonies for hundreds of our people killed by Nnamdi Kanu and his men and women in IPOB, ESN, UGM, BDF in 10 years. Let us stop dancing on their graves. It is pure evil,” Igbo wrote, stressing the cultural and spiritual importance of burial rites in Igbo society.
His message underscores the longstanding Igbo belief that proper burial ceremonies are vital for the deceased’s spiritual rest and the community’s harmony. In traditional Igbo culture, unburied or improperly buried individuals are thought to be restless, potentially causing disharmony among the living.
The appeal comes against a backdrop of ongoing tension and security challenges in Nigeria’s Southeast, where episodes of unrest have been linked to separatist movements and armed groups. Nnamdi Kanu, who has been detained since 2021, continues to be a polarizing figure in the region.
Igbo’s call highlights not only the spiritual significance of honoring the dead but also serves as a reminder of the community’s cultural responsibilities, urging Southeast residents to reconcile with their past before moving forward. See, More, Here>>>>
