JNS CEO Alex Traiman has expressed deep skepticism about recent statements from Iranian leaders claiming the country no longer seeks nuclear weapons, describing the remarks as a transparent attempt to stall for time and avoid further military pressure from the United States under President Donald Trump.
Traiman noted that the regime appears to be shifting its public stance in response to mounting threats, including the movement of a massive U.S. armada toward the region and the recent destruction of key nuclear facilities. “We’re starting to hear that the Iranians are willing to negotiate now. They understand how serious the threat is to their survival and uh you’ve heard some Iranian leaders say that Iran does not want nuclear weapons,” he said. He immediately qualified this by adding, “So maybe they’re coming around and they’re obviously trying to wait President Trump out.”
Traiman argued that Iran’s leadership is focused on survival above all else, seeking a temporary “stay of execution” while hoping to outlast the current U.S. administration. He recalled Trump’s earlier warning that the Iranians “have never won a war, but have never lost a negotiation,” suggesting any talks would be heavily tilted in Tehran’s favor if the U.S. engages without firm preconditions.
He further warned that the regime’s long-term strategic patience contrasts sharply with Trump’s limited three-year window to achieve results. A future administration less hawkish on Iran, Traiman cautioned, could reverse course and flood the regime with funds once again—allowing nuclear development to resume unchecked. The comments reflect growing Israeli concern that Iran’s apparent willingness to negotiate may be nothing more than a delaying tactic amid heightened regional tensions and the regime’s internal fragility.
