Former senator Victor Umeh has spoken on the importance of integrity, fairness, and principled leadership in Nigerian politics during the 80th birthday celebration of Chief Dan Ulasi. The event brought together family members, political leaders, associates, and well-wishers who gathered to honour Ulasi’s long-standing commitment to truth, justice, and the advancement of the Igbo people.
In a video shared by Symfoni TV, Umeh used the occasion to reflect on his own political journey, highlighting the challenges faced by those who insist on fairness and due process. Recalling the 2003 Anambra State governorship election, he stated that APGA emerged victorious but was denied its mandate, an experience he said underscored the difficulties of upholding democratic principles in Nigeria’s political environment.
Umeh described Chief Ulasi as a man known for speaking the truth without fear, even when such positions placed him at odds with party interests. According to him, Ulasi consistently stood for what was right, defended legitimate outcomes, and promoted accountability, qualities that set him apart as a principled political figure.
He also noted Ulasi’s role during critical moments in Nigeria’s political history, pointing out his courage and firm stance on issues affecting the Igbo people. Umeh stressed that Ulasi’s life and actions serve as a guide for younger politicians, showing that justice, fairness, and integrity should remain central to political leadership.
Concluding his remarks, Umeh called for greater unity among the Igbo, urging them to appreciate and support individuals who have made sacrifices in the struggle for equity and fairness. He offered prayers for Chief Dan Ulasi’s continued good health and long life, expressing hope that his legacy would continue to inspire future generations committed to principled leadership in Nigeria.
