If you look at it, Sheikh that has been negotiating forgiveness should not be walking free–Wale Oke

According to the report from the Sun on Saturday, January 17, 2026, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), has made serious allegations about the ultimate objective behind terrorist activities targeting Christians in northern Nigeria.

The religious leader claimed that the wave of attacks is part of a calculated strategy with a specific aim. He alleged that the main objective of the terrorists was to wipe out Christianity in the north and establish an Islamic caliphate.

Bishop Oke also took aim at individuals he believes are enabling terrorist activities through negotiation efforts, specifically referencing Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, who has been known for his engagement with bandits and calls for amnesty.

“If you look at it, including the Sheikh (Gumi) that has been negotiating forgiveness. That is arrant nonsense,” Bishop Oke declared. “The man shouldn’t be walking free on the street. He should be locked up.”

The PFN President drew a comparison between perpetrators and those who facilitate their activities, arguing for equal accountability.

“The greater thief is not the guy who will steal. The one who aids and abets is part of the gang,” he stated. “So, we shouldn’t tolerate them at all.”

Bishop Oke’s strong words reflect deepening frustration among Christian leaders over both the ongoing violence and what they perceive as insufficient consequences for those advocating leniency toward terrorist groups.
