If I’m president of Nigeria, My minister of Defense Will Be A Drone or Several Of Them.” — Sowore

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has sparked fresh national debate following his recent assessment of the worsening security situation across the country. Speaking during a live interview, the activist turned politician criticized the current administration for its perceived lack of leadership and modern strategy. He argued that the traditional security architecture has failed to protect citizens, suggesting that a radical technological shift is now urgently required.

According to a video posted on the Official YouTube channel of Channels Television, while discussing the recurring failures of conventional military operations, Omoyele Sowore boldly declared, “If I’m president of Nigeria, I won’t have a minister of defense, my minister of defense will be a drone or several of them.”

The publisher of Sahara Reporters further explained that the global landscape of warfare has shifted toward unmanned systems, citing recent conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe as primary examples. He lamented that Nigeria continues to invest heavily in expensive, manned fighter jets that require years of pilot training and difficult maintenance. For Sowore, the obsession with old hardware is a sign of obsolete thinking that keeps the nation perpetually vulnerable.

Addressing the logistical benefits of his proposal, Sowore noted that inexpensive drones could effectively monitor vast forest areas where kidnappers and bandits currently operate with total impunity. He emphasized that local surveillance technology provides real time intelligence that human soldiers often lack due to poor equipment or coordination. By replacing a traditional minister with a robust fleet of high tech drones, he believes the country could finally secure its borders.

While many critics might view his proposal as unconventional, the AAC leader remains adamant that breaking the table of traditional governance is the only way forward. He insisted that social security, coupled with advanced technology, would do more to stabilize the region than the current system of heavy spending. As the 2027 conversation begins to take shape, Sowore is clearly positioning himself as the candidate of radical, tech driven change.
