Former Special Adviser to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, has recalled how the late Lagos businessman and philanthropist, Baba Ojora, supported him with funds to establish a magazine but dismissed the presidential ambition of Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola (MKO Abiola).
Ojudu, narrating the encounter in a recent interview, said he visited Baba Ojora’s home while seeking financial backing to launch the publication. “When we were looking for funds to set up the magazine, I went to his (Baba Ojora’s) home. A jolly good fellow brought out champagne and we drank and started talking and all of that,” he recalled.
According to him, Baba Ojora promised to help and involved his son in reviewing their business plan. The businessman later provided financial support. “Eventually, he, who is late now, provided ₦500,000 at that time as the family’s contribution to the business,” Ojudu said.
However, during their conversation, Ojudu and his colleagues brought up their experiences with Abiola, who was already nursing his presidential ambition. Baba Ojora, he said, dismissed the idea outright. “We then went back, talking about our experience with Abiola, and said, ‘Oh, the man wants to be president now.’ He said, ‘You know, young men, we know those who were president yesterday, we know those who are president today, we know those who will be president tomorrow. He (Abiola) is not one of them. He’s not one of them,’” Ojudu recounted. See, More, Here>>>>
