I Think It’s About Satisfying Interest Of The Intruder, The Foreigner. It’s Purely For Internal-Gumi

In a recent video on YouTube, Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has strongly criticised what he described as a foreign-backed military action in Nigeria, warning that it undermines the country’s sovereignty and poses grave risks to innocent civilians.

Speaking on the controversy, Gumi argued that the operation in question lacked both military and political justification, insisting that it neither advances Nigeria’s security interests nor addresses the root causes of insecurity. According to him, such actions are often driven by external interests rather than genuine concern for Nigeria’s stability.

“When you talk about the context or the motive of this operation, I don’t think it has any military significance, and it doesn’t have any political objective,” Gumi said. “I think it is about satisfying the interest of the intruder, the foreigner. It is purely for internal consumption of the United States.”

Gumi also faulted what he described as a discriminatory narrative used to justify the intervention, particularly claims that the action was meant to protect Christians. He dismissed such explanations as misleading. “Nigeria accepted a discriminatory tone when they came to attack Nigeria, saying they are coming to protect Christians. From their first attack, you know it is all a facade. It doesn’t mean what they said,” he stated.

The cleric urged Nigerian authorities to exercise caution in security cooperation with foreign powers, warning that such partnerships could erode national independence. “We really have to be very careful in this kind of cooperation between Nigeria and the United States,” he said, adding that while there are “very good people” in the US, the country is currently “under the spell of extremists controlling the nation.”

Gumi further expressed hope that Nigeria would reclaim full control over its security affairs. “I hope soon it will be over and Nigeria will really regain back its sovereignty and stop all these kinds of things that infringe on our rights,” he said.

Addressing public reaction, Gumi noted that many Nigerians across regional and religious lines have condemned the development. “Luckily, Nigeria has a lot of educated people, both in the North and the South, and people have come out to speak,” he said. “I don’t think, except for a few gullible Nigerians, anybody is really happy about this issue. It’s about sovereignty.”

He warned that airstrikes and bombardments are ineffective against non-conventional threats like banditry and terrorism. “Sovereignty of Nigeria is raped by this attack,” Gumi said. “It doesn’t have any military significance. Bandits or terrorists are mobile; they move from one place to another. You can’t kill them with bombardment.”

According to him, such tactics only worsen humanitarian crises. “Bombardment will only kill innocent people,” Gumi cautioned, calling for intelligence-driven and locally controlled solutions to Nigeria’s security challenges.
