I Smoked For 13 Years,By The Time I Entered University,I Was Smoking 2 Packs A Day–Ebuka Obi-Uchendu

According to a report by Daily Post on May 22, 2026, media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu has opened up about his past struggle with smoking addiction and how he was eventually able to overcome it after years of consistent effort and personal discipline.

He made the revelation during a recent episode of the ‘MENtality’ podcast, where he appeared alongside singer Banky W and social media influencer Aproko doctor. The discussion focused on personal growth, lifestyle challenges, and overcoming harmful habits developed over time.

Ebuka disclosed that his smoking habit began very early in life while he was still in junior secondary school. He explained how deeply the addiction progressed over the years and the extent of his dependence at its peak.

“I started smoking In JSS3. I smoked for 13 years. By the time I entered university, I was smoking two packs a day. I was a heavy smoker,” he recalled.

He further explained that quitting was not an instant decision but a gradual process that required determination and intentional changes to his daily routine and environment. According to him, breaking free from addiction involved a strong personal commitment to live differently and avoid triggers that sustained the habit.

Ebuka also warned that many people who overcome one form of addiction often fall into another, as they try to fill the gap left behind by the previous habit. He stressed the importance of awareness and self-control during recovery.
