I Know They Will Come To Give You ₦20,000 To Vote, But Remember The Money Is Not Theirs —Peter Obi

In a recent interview on Symfoni TV, Peter Obi, while campaigning with Dr. Moses Paul at the Abuja Timber Market ahead of the upcoming AMAC local council election, warned residents against accepting vote-buying incentives from politicians.

“I know they will come to give you ₦20,000 to vote, but remember the money is not theirs,” he declared, emphasizing that such cash handouts are public funds stolen from citizens.

Obi explained how the misuse of public resources directly affects communities, leaving residents without essential services. “That money they are giving you is why there are no schools, no hospitals, no roads, and no water. Public money should be used for public good, to build schools, hospitals, and infrastructure for the people,” he said.

He also highlighted his vision for a new political approach focused on transparency, education, healthcare, and economic opportunity. “We want a Nigeria where children of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody. We want functional schools, hospitals for mothers and children, and roads that connect markets and communities,” Obi stressed.

Urging voters to prioritize competence over short-term gain, Obi tied local electoral participation to the larger goal of the 2027 elections. “Go out this Saturday and vote based on what candidates can deliver, not money given to you.
