I Can Tell You For Free That Part Of What Escalated Crisis Between Fubara, Wike Was His CoS-Lokpobiri

Ten days after his reinstatement following the end of emergency rule in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, is yet to make key political appointments, including the commissioners that would work with him in his cabinet.

According to The Punch, 28th of September, 2025, Fubara was suspended on March 18, 2025, by President Bola Tinubu over a political crisis involving his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now FCT Minister.

The suspension, which also affected his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and the state assembly, was part of a state of emergency that paralyzed governance for six months, with retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas appointed sole administrator.

The move drew criticism, with opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar describing it as unconstitutional, though Tinubu defended it. Fubara was reinstated on September 18, 2025, at the end of the emergency period.

Ibas had earlier suspended commissioners, advisers, and aides appointed by Fubara. Since returning, the governor has yet to name a Chief of Staff, Secretary to the State Government, or submit commissioner-nominees, raising concerns among political associates.

An aide, speaking anonymously, said most of the former commissioners were unlikely to return, noting that major restructuring was ongoing behind the scenes.

On his part, the President of the Ijaw Youths Council, Jonathan Lokpobiri, said that although the appointments were important, the Governor should be careful not to repeat the same mistakes that had plunged the state into political crisis.

Lokpobiri explained that the Governor was currently operating in a very complex environment and expressed the view that Fubara was likely taking his time wisely to ensure that the errors of the past were not repeated.

Further talking, he said, “I can almost tell you for free that part of what escalated the crisis between him, and his godfather was on account of some of these political appointees.

“His Chief of Staff was among those, so I don’t expect him to hastily make political appointments that’ll exacerbate a conflict that took us almost five or ten years backwards.” See, More, Here>>>>
