I Bought Fake Mustache And Went To Streets, 8 Out Of 10 People Said They’ll Give Kagame 10 Terms—Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that he did not oppose President Paul Kagame’s decision to seek a third term in Rwanda because he found out that the citizens of the country were in favour of it.

In a video shared by Symfoni TV, Obasanjo explained that when Kagame was planning to extend his stay in power beyond two terms, he disguised himself and visited Rwanda to know how the people of the country felt about it. He said he put on a fake mustache, stayed at a local hotel, and went into the streets to speak with people directly

Obasanjo said, out of the ten people he questioned, eight said as long as Kagame was leading the country effectively, they were willing to support him to have even 10 terms if he wanted. He said after hearing this, he felt it was not his place to oppose Kagame’s their term agenda, since the citizens were clearly in support of it.

In Obasanjo’s words: “Then I wanted to know what was going on in the streets. So I bought an artificial mustache and then I went to a local hotel, and then I went into the streets. And I asked 10 people, and 8 out of 10 said, ‘look if this man is ruling us the way he is ruling us, if he wants 10 terms we will give him’. Now if you get that from the people of the country, who am I?
