I Am Almost 100 Years Old, I Was Born On December 5, 1925, I Know What Is Possible Or Not-Yakasai

Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, a prominent Nigerian elder statesman nearing his 100th birthday, has expressed firm opposition to the idea of reinstating regional government in Nigeria. Speaking in a recent interview published by VANGUARD on Tuesday September 23 2025, he emphasized that his long life and experience have given him clarity on what is realistic for the country. He stated that regional governance, once attempted in Nigeria’s past, is no longer a viable option in today’s political climate.

Yakasai explained that the country has evolved significantly since the days of regional administration, and trying to revive that system would be a step backward. He pointed out that the challenges faced during the previous era of regional governance are well documented, and the nation has since adopted a more unified structure that reflects its current realities. According to him, the idea of returning to regionalism lacks genuine support, especially in Northern Nigeria.

He urged Nigerians to focus on progressive development and adapt to modern governance models. Yakasai believes that clinging to outdated systems hinders national growth and unity. His remarks serve as a reminder that while history offers valuable lessons, the future demands forward-thinking solutions tailored to present-day challenges.

Here’s what he said, “As you are aware, I am almost 100 years old. I was born on December 5, 1925. I know what is possible and what is not. I don’t think regional government is possible again in Nigeria. We tried it in the past and we all know how it ended.” See, More, Here>>>>
