Nigerian activist and candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, in the 2023 presidential election, Omoyele Sowore has expressed deep concern over the quality of leadership in Kogi State, describing it as a tragic descent into political incompetence and authoritarianism.
This was contained in a post shared on his official X handle on Monday, November 17, 2025.
He made the statement while reacting to recent remarks by Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, who reportedly warned citizens against criticizing his administration, threatening to deploy security forces to silence dissent.
In the post that has since gained traction online, Sowore condemned both the current and former governors of the state, accusing them of turning Kogi into a stronghold of failed leadership and repression.
The human rights activist urged Nigerians to resist political intimidation and defend their democratic rights.
Sowore said,
“How Kogi State has managed to produce some of the most inept governors and deputies in recent years is both astonishing and painfully tragic. From Yahaya Bello’s @officialGYBKogi disastrous tenure to this new buffoonery from Governor Usman Ododo @OfficialOAU now threatening citizens that his administration “will not tolerate criticism” and that security agencies funded by taxpayers will be deployed to suppress civil rights it is clear that Kogi has become a breeding ground for political mediocrity backed by authoritarian tendencies. Citizens must stand up to these political goons. No society progresses by surrendering its voice or its dignity.”
