He Sacrificed His Position for Osimhen, Just Like I Did in 2013 — Brown Ideye on Akor Adams

Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye praised Akor Adams for his impressive performances as Nigeria advances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, as reported by Soccernet. Although Adams debuted for the national team just two months ago, he has quickly integrated into the squad and formed a successful partnership with Victor Osimhen.

The 25-year-old Sevilla forward has made notable contributions in Morocco, scoring one goal and providing two assists during the tournament. While he is primarily a centre-forward, Adams has displayed tactical adaptability by occasionally dropping deeper or moving wide to support Osimhen and the team strategy, often putting the team’s success ahead of his personal scoring ambitions.

Drawing from his own experience in Nigeria’s victorious 2013 AFCON team, Ideye compared his role to that of Adams. “He’s the type of player who can create opportunities, score goals, and add excitement to the game. He has adjusted his position to support Osimhen, similar to what I did for Emmanuel Emenike in 2013,” Ideye said.

The former West Brom player also shared that he regularly communicates with Adams, offering advice on coping with the pressures of international football. Ideye encouraged the young striker to stay focused and patient, reassuring him that his chance to shine would come—a mentorship that seems to have supported Adams’ swift rise on the continental stage.

Adams’ versatility and willingness to sacrifice for the team have been crucial to Nigeria’s success in the tournament, emphasizing the significance of teamwork and strategic awareness in the Super Eagles’ AFCON campaign.
