He had a lot of hatred in his heart… strongly anti-Christian,’ Trump said of the shooter

According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Sunday, April 26, 2026, US President Donald Trump has described the suspect in the shooting incident linked to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner as a deeply troubled individual motivated by what he called strong anti-Christian sentiment, while also praising security forces for quickly neutralising the threat.

Speaking in an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Trump said the attacker appeared to harbour long-standing anger and ideological hostility, which he claimed was reflected in writings allegedly recovered by investigators.

“He had a lot of hatred in his heart for quite a while,” Trump said, adding that the suspect’s alleged mindset appeared to be “strongly anti-Christian.” He further suggested that members of the suspect’s family may have been aware of his behaviour and “probably should have reported him a little bit more strongly,” implying earlier intervention might have been possible.

The US president also expressed personal anger over the incident, describing the suspect as “a sick, bad person” and criticising what he viewed as a broader threat to national stability. “I hated a guy like this, sick, bad person. I hated somebody like that, changing the course of our country,” he said.

Trump commended the swift response of the Secret Service during the incident, saying the attacker moved aggressively but was intercepted before reaching a secured area. According to him, the suspect “came in running like he was an NFL running back,” but was stopped short of breaching critical security points.

In the aftermath of the attack, Trump also reiterated plans for enhanced security infrastructure at the White House. He referenced proposals for a new secure ballroom on the grounds of the presidential complex, which he said would include extremely thick bulletproof glass and advanced anti-drone protection systems. He described the location as being on “the most secure ground, probably in the world.”
