Half Of Iranian Ballistic Missiles Launched At Israel Were Armed With Cluster Warheads, IDF Confirms

According to a report by The Times Of Israel on March 10, 2026, about half of the ballistic missiles launched by Iran toward Israel during the ongoing conflict have been fitted with cluster bomb warheads, based on updated assessments from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Military officials said the cluster warheads are designed to disperse dozens of smaller explosive submunitions over a wide area. Each of these submunitions carries several kilograms of explosives and can spread across a radius of roughly 10 kilometers, or about six miles. Because they scatter over such a large area, the weapons can cause damage in multiple locations and pose a danger to civilians and infrastructure.

Israeli officials noted that while the country’s air defense systems have managed to intercept many incoming missiles, dealing with cluster warheads presents additional difficulties. Defense authorities stressed that Israel’s air defenses, though advanced, cannot provide a completely sealed shield against every threat.

The IDF Home Front Command said that Iran’s missile attacks during the conflict have targeted not only military bases and strategic infrastructure but also civilian population centers. Authorities say this pattern has increased the risk to residents in several areas.

In recent days, Iran’s attacks have involved only one missile or a small number launched at a time rather than large, coordinated barrages. Israeli military assessments suggest that Iran may be experiencing difficulties organizing wider simultaneous strikes against Israel…..See More
