
The Super Eagles of Nigeria beat the Squirrels of Benin 4-0 at Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo as, they finished as runners-up in group C behind the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, who beat Rwanda 3-0 to top group C with 18 points.
The victory by the South African have seen them gain automatic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico that is slated for next year.
Meanwhile, the Eagles victory against the West African neighbors help them qualify for the playoffs that is scheduled to hold in the first quota of next year in Morocco. A hat-trick from Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen and a late close range strike from Frank Onyeka help Nigeria take all three points in the highly contested game.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria can still qualify for the World Cup tournament if they are able to win this four games. They will play against Gabon in their first playoff game in Morocco, if they Eagles are victorious in this clash , they will face the winner between Cameroon and DR Congo.
The Eagles victory in this two games in African soil will help them qualify for the intercontinental play-offs.
The Super Eagles are going into the tournament as African representative in the intercontinental play-offs schedule to be hosted by the United States. In the intercontinental play-offs participating teams are drawn from Africa, Asia, South America, Oceania and two countries from North and Central America.
