February, We Gave Residents 14 Days To Vacate The Area, Next Is To Take The Bull By The Horn -Oki

Gbolahan Oki, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, has disclosed the government’s firm stance on removing illegal structures built under high-tension power lines and around the Third Mainland Bridge.

This was revealed in a report by VANGUARD on Wednesday December 10, 2025, following an inspection tour conducted by senior state officials.

He made the statement while responding to questions about the government’s next steps after repeated warnings to residents of Makoko and other affected areas.

Oki explained that despite several stakeholder engagements and a 14-day eviction notice issued as far back as February, many residents have refused to vacate the danger zones.

The senior official emphasized that the government would no longer tolerate the encroachment, citing the growing risk to public safety and infrastructure.

Oki said, “As far back as February this year, we gave them 14 days to vacate the area, but as you can see, they refused. They are even extending towards the middle of the Third Mainland Bridge. We have warned them several times, the next step is to take the bull by the horn.”

Oki stressed that enforcement will be intensified to ensure compliance with planning regulations and to protect lives and property.
