In a recent Symfoni TV interview, PDP senior chieftain Oladimeji Fabiyi discussed Ayo Fayose’s early political career and the support he received from influential party figures.
Fabiyi revealed, “It was Atiku who initially provided the ₦15 million that Fayose used to kickstart his campaign,” highlighting that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s financial backing was instrumental in launching Fayose’s political journey. He noted, however, that Fayose has repeatedly shown a lack of gratitude toward those who helped him rise within the party.
The PDP leader also voiced concern over the party’s current condition, citing internal conflicts, leadership struggles, and what he called self-serving agendas among its leaders. According to Fabiyi, the PDP has drifted far from the founding vision and risks further deterioration unless reforms are implemented.
Fabiyi specifically criticized Fayose for his interactions with party elders and key members, suggesting that acts of disrespect and personal interest are undermining party unity. He warned that such behavior could compromise the PDP’s ability to present a cohesive front in upcoming elections.
Despite these criticisms, Fabiyi affirmed his loyalty to the PDP, stating that he remains a committed member. He stressed the urgent need for reforms to restore the party’s effectiveness and maintain its role as a leading opposition force.
